What is a Permanent Backup in SiteSkite?

SiteSkite offers a Permanent Backup feature that allows you to mark any backup as a long-term restore point. Unlike regular daily or on-demand backups—which may expire based on your plan’s retention limits—permanent backups never expire and remain available indefinitely unless you manually delete them.

This is extremely useful when you want to preserve a specific safe restore point that you may need in the future.

What Does “Permanent” Backup Mean?

When you mark a backup as Permanent, SiteSkite:

  • Saves that backup forever (no automatic deletion).

  • Excludes it from your retention quota for daily automated backups.

  • Makes it accessible at any time from the Permanent tab.

  • Guarantees you always have at least one safe “fallback version” of your site.

Once a backup is permanent, it will remain available even if:

  • Other backups expire

  • Automatic cleanup runs

  • Your backup history resets

  • You exceed your daily backup limits

It becomes a freeze-point of your website.

When Should You Use Permanent Backups?

Permanent backups are especially useful in scenarios such as:

✓ Before launching a new redesign or feature

Save a stable version before making large changes.

✓ Before migrating your website

Keep a guaranteed restore point during the migration process.

✓ After completing a major milestone

For example:

  • Completed new theme build

  • Validated eCommerce setup

  • Clean audit of plugins and database

✓ Agency workflows

Keep a permanent “golden version” for client sites.

How to Mark a Backup as Permanent

  1. Go to SiteSkite Portal → Your Desired Linked Sites → Backups.

  2. Find any backup in the All Backups or On-Demand tab.

  3. Select the checkbox and choose Set as Permanent.

  4. The backup will move into the Permanent category.

You can also bulk-select backups and mark them permanent at once.

Where to Find Permanent Backups

A dedicated Permanent tab exists within the Backups section.
All permanent backups are listed here with:

  • Backup size

  • Backup type (Classic or Incremental)

  • Download option

  • Restore option

  • Description / notes

They stay available forever.

How to Remove Permanent Status

If you no longer need a permanent backup:

  1. Open the Permanent tab.

  2. Click the Permanent toggle action button from bottom control center.

  3. The backup will return to normal retention behavior or be removed if expired.
